Should I visit my GP during Coronavirus restrictions?

Everyone's attention is on current and evolving historic event. It is obviously important and necessary to cancel dinner parties, holidays and concerts. However, what about your routine health checkups or new health symptoms?

The answer, like the pandemic, is not straight forward. It's a conversation you should have with your GP via telehealth or face to face, if it is safe to do so. Telehealth, via a phone call or video link can be a safe and effective way to start the conversation. Your GP will advise you as to what can be done remotely, what can be postponed safely and what needs to be done now. Telehealth technology is helping GPs at Whitehorse Medical Centre reduce the number of patients visiting the centre, whilst staying open safely for face to face consultations when needed.

People who are experiencing any new symptoms or live with a chronic health condition, such as heart disease, asthma, diabetes or cancers, should see their GP in person.

For appointments in person or via Telehealth at Whitehorse Medical Centre, phone 03 9874 7399 or online www.whitehorsemedical.com

Outpatient Clinics & Elective Surgery at Public & Private Hospitals

On 25/3/2020, the Victorian Minister of Health announced that no further category three elective surgeries would take place in the state until further notice, while category two surgeries will only happen if delays would pose a serious risk to the health of the patient (www.premier.vic.gov.au/elective-surgery-wound-back-to-prepare-for-coronavirus).

Private and Public Outpatient appointments are generally now performed through the phone as Telehealth. Access to hospitals are highly restricted and it is important to check entry criteria to each health service. Most will have health screening check points, restrict the visiting hours or the number of visitors etc.
